Creole is also known as “influenced language” and because of this it can be quite difficult to define exactly what makes a language creole and what makes it not one. The fact that Creole was formed from many other languages can lead to some confusion around who exactly should be speaking Creole and who shouldn’t be. Someone who speaks an English influenced Creole, for example, might feel like there is something wrong with them if they speak their Creole at home but speak English to their English-speaking friends and family because they believe this represents how they should speak to the world.
